A Few Myths About Hair Loss - Health And Fitness Tips

You might be surprised to learn that many people are unable to untangle fact from fiction when it comes to hair loss. Some of the blame lies with the many companies and individuals exploiting hair loss myths in order to sell bogus hair products. There are also myths that linger because those with hair loss don?t like talking about this sensitive and emotional issue. Also different in men and women are the timing and the pattern of baldness.

Men start to lose their hair at their 30?s and 40?s while women begin during their 40?s or 50?s, although there are cases when hair loss in women begins as early as the 20s. And while men first lose hair in the front and at the top of the head, women?s hair thins diffusely throughout the scalp.

Hair restoration surgeons say that their practices are mostly made up of women despite the fact that women were once reluctant to seek treatment. Hair loss is common in both men and women but the degree of loss varies by gender. According to researches, over 50% of men have significant hair loss by the age of 50. Women are more conscientious about hiding hair loss, so it?s not apparent even if about 25% of women start to significantly lose their hair at the age of 50.

Hair loss, according to most people, is the result of genetic predisposition. For some, however, hair loss may result from a condition called telogen effluvium. In a relatively short period of time, a lot of hair may fall out in telogen effluvium condition.

The most common causes are childbirth, high fever, severe illness and even high stress. In most cases this type of hair loss is temporary. Other common causes are inadequate protein or iron in your diet, or poor nourishment caused by fad diets or an eating disorder. Gradual hair loss can also be caused by straightening or perming your hair, bleaching, and other hairstyles that pull your hair too tight.
